Curated by Edward Chiu at The Shophouse in Hong Kong, this exhibition translated the 2019 documentary Martin Margiela: In His Own Words into a multi-sensory retrospective. To deepen the immersion, Chiu collaborated with Frédéric Sanchez—Margiela’s long-term musical director—to design a building-wide soundscape that evoked the atmosphere of the designer’s original world.

The showcase spanned three floors of archival discovery:

  • Ground Floor: Featured photography of archival pieces worn by Nana Komatsu for 198201111959 Magazine, alongside Edward Chiu’s personal archive of show invites and rare London store releases.

  • Mezzanine & Second Floor: A dedicated reading room for Margiela’s publications led to a curated selection of apparel and accessories from the designer's tenure, sourced from Tokyo’s Laila Tokio.

  • Third Floor: A gallery screening space dedicated to the titular documentary, providing a final, intimate look at the designer’s journey from childhood to his 1990s Paris debut.
